The Official 2003 EFNY Press Release

Save The Date! - Sixth Annual Hudson River Sea Doo Dealer's Escape From New York Personal Watercraft Poker Run to Benefit American Diabetes Association Announced for July 12 & 13, 2003

Catskill, NY - Get ready for the northeast's premier watercraft event, the sixth annual Hudson River SEA-DOO Dealer's Escape From New York is scheduled for July 12 & 13. The group personal watercraft ride, benefiting the American Diabetes Association, will again ride up the Hudson River from Stony Point, at the North end of Haverstraw Bay to Catskill, NY, and back. In past years the event has drawn up to 234 riders from 11 states and Canada.

This year Escape From New York will be welcoming The American Watercraft Association (AWA) as a sanctioning organization. The AWA is an organization which includes recreational riders, as well as watercraft and accessory manufacturers and dealers. The AWA is an advocate for the PWC community on waterway access, safety and environmental issues and sponsors events around the country. Escape from New York is also pleased to welcome ISU the May Agency as a cosponsor, providing AWA sanctioning and insurance fees for the event.

Hosted by Riverview Marine in Catskill, NY, and supported by Bombardier Corporation's SEA-DOO watercraft division, the ride will depart the lower Hudson River on Saturday, July 12 from Willow Cove Marina in Stony Point, then proceed approximately 62 miles upriver as a poker run. Each participating watercraft owner will receive a specially marked playing card at each of the checkpoints along the route, manned by participating SEA DOO dealers, Zollers Marine Center in Croton on Hudson, Wide Open Motorsports in Kerhonkson, and Dutchess Recreational Vehicles in Poughkeepsie. The rider with the highest poker hand at the end of the ride will be awarded the grand prize, a new SEA-DOO watercraft.

Arriving in Catskill, participants will be treated to entertainment and a marina Bar-B-Q. They also will be able to test their riding skill in a timed run on a buoyed slalom course nearby, explore the scenic waters of the Hudson and enjoy more festivities at the Marina for the remainder of the day.

Entertainment, a boatload of prizes, awards and a grand banquet will be provided Saturday evening at the famous Friar Tuck Inn in Catskill. Sunday participants will enjoy a hearty breakfast before returning to the water to explore or head down river to the launch location, ending an exciting weekend of personal watercraft fun.

"The Hudson River SEA-DOO Dealers organized the Escape From New York ride to provide an enjoyable event to bring personal watercraft riders together, as well as raise money for a good cause." said Mike Aguiar of Riverview Marine, a Sea Doo dealer in Catskill, NY. "It's also a great way to demonstrate the Good Clean Fun of personal watercraft riding, reinforcing Bombardier's Ride Smart from the Start safety program messages."

Plans call for safety support from Sea Tow Mid Hudson to assist any riders requesting help. All safety and boating rules and laws will be enforced. Festivities will take place "rain or shine."

2001 EFNY
(Cancelled)

On March 25, 2001, I received the following e-mail after inquiring about the 2001 event:

Dear Jet Friends, I am sorry to have to tell you all that Escape from NY will not be held this year. A couple of dealers who ran the checkpoints along the way dropped out and support for the event was diminishing from other supporters. I am open to suggestion for other Hudson River rides and we may revive Escape next year. I do invite anyone who is interested in riding this area (the upper Hudson River Valley) to contact me for local info on free launch ramps, camping & lodging info, local places to ride to, area events, etc. This area is a great place to ride and I will be glad to help any responsible riders who want to visit, just let me know how I can help. Sorry we had to cancel Escape. There is an around Fire Island endurance race this year, it is being organized by a guy who runs (west)? Sayville boat basin on Long Island NY.

Have a great and safe summer, Mike Aguiar
